For households in neighborhoods with backdoor garbage service, the District’s garbage contractor will also collect yard waste at the backdoor (up to four (4) containers or bags of grass clippings, leaves and small trimmings). If you have more than 4 containers/bags, you must place the extras at the curb. For all households, yard waste must be placed in containers or bags not exceeding 65 gallons or 40 pounds, and trees, shrubs, and brush trimmings must be bundled in lengths no greater than 4 feet.
Recycling in all neighborhoods is collected curbside.
If the scheduled collection day falls on any observed holiday (New Year’s Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas), the collection will be suspended, and pickups will resume the following regularly scheduled collection day.
